Russian lieutenant general involved in war against Ukraine killed in car explosion

A car carrying Lieutenant General Fanil Sarvarov, head of the Operational Training Directorate of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, has been blown up in Moscow, killing him.

Details: The Investigative Committee said that Lieutenant General Sarvarov was killed in a car explosion on Yasenevaya Street in Moscow.

Russian authorities have opened a criminal case under articles on murder and the illegal handling of explosive devices.

According to the Investigative Committee, an explosive device planted under the car was detonated on the morning of 22 December on Yasenevaya Street.

Sarvarov died from the injuries he sustained in the blast.

One of the Russian authorities' versions of the incident links this explosion to Ukrainian special services.

Russian Telegram channels report that Sarvarov had taken part in the war against Ukraine.

He had also previously been involved in combat operations in Chechnya and Syria.
