Kyiv installs first mobile bomb shelter – with more planned as Russian attacks continue

Kyiv has installed its first officially certified mobile bomb shelter, a step toward expanding civilian protection during Russia’s attacks, according to Timur Tkachenko, head of the Kyiv City Military Administration. The shelter is part of a wider effort to address the city’s shortage of protective structures.

Access to safe shelters has become a critical concern in Ukraine, where Russian strikes regularly target populated areas and civilian infrastructure. Shelters provide civilians with a secure space to reduce casualties and survive attacks - an essential role in wartime safety.

The shelter was manufactured to national safety standards and includes features for accessibility. Additional mobile shelters are planned across the city as part of ongoing efforts to improve civilian safety during Russian attacks.

Officials emphasized that the shelters are intended solely to protect residents and that expanding coverage remains a priority amid the ongoing war.
